Kornati National Park

Kornati

A legend says that there are as many Kornati islands as there are days in a year. Actually, there are fewer islands than that. The Kornati islands include 152 islands and islets. Because of their beauty, well indented coastline and rich underwater life, the greater part of Kornati maritime zone was turned into a national park in 1980. The Park includes 89 islands, islets and rocks, but the land makes up just one quarter of the whole park. The rest is a marine ecosystem. The islands are not inhabited, but there are structures such as dry stone walls, churches and fishermen’s houses. You can rent the houses and live there like Robinson Crusoe. You will have no electricity and you will eat what you bring with you, or you can catch some fish in the sea! Some of the islands are unusually shaped, so they got unusual names: Hatter, Dead Man, Spike, Aquarius, Fart, Little Chard and even Old Woman’s Backside.
