Leptiri, a osobito danji, zbog svoje ljepote i lakog zapažanja pobuđuju pažnju ljudi. Promjene u okolišu imaju za posljedicu pad brojnosti leptira i drugih biljnih i životinjskih skupina, a zbog njihove ljepote i karizme pad brojnosti danjih leptira i njihov nestanak s nekog područja čini gubitak biološke raznolikosti vidljiv svima.

Brijuni National Park

Brijuni National Park was established in 1983. It is situated close to the coast of Istria, not far from the town of Fažana. The Brijuni Islands, the only national park in Istria, consists of 14 islands. The largest islands are Veliki Brijun and Mali Brijun, while the rest of the islands are smaller. The sea is shallow in this area, around 12 m deep between Fažana and Brijuni, and Tisnac pass that separates Veliki and Mali Brijun is only 2.5 m deep. You can find many attractions here: dinosaur footsteps, an underwater educational trail, ruins of an ancient villa, 1600-year-old olive tree, a safari park, an ethno park, a bird reserve and many other things, and you can see it all by a sightseeing train.

Rastoke – Plitvice in miniature

Rastoke

The village of Rastoke near Slunj lives on two rivers, Korana and SlunjËica, which form numerous beautiful big and small waterfalls running over tufa cascades. A small village perches above the waterfalls, with watermills that still function.

Did you know that laundry-washing baskets, using the power of the waterfalls, used to be attached to the watermills?
They were proper washing machines of their time!

Vukovar

Vukovar

Vukovar is situated at the estuary of the rivers Vuka and Danube. By inland waterways it is connected with Budapest and Vienna, as well as with Romania further downstream! It has been inhabited since the ancient times, but was heavily devastated during the war in 1991. It is still undergoing recovery and reconstruction, but you must visit the Eltz Manor and the old water tower.

Near the banks of Danube you can also see the archaeological site Vučedol. About 5000 years ago first Bronze Age people lived here. The famous items found at this site include the Vučedol dove and Orion – a vessel with the oldest European calendar inscribed on it. The Vučedol dove is a symbol of peace and of Vukovar.

Bjelovar

Did you know that Bjelovar is known as Enigmopolis – a town of puzzles? (enigma = puzzle). The people of Bjelovar were particularly fond of puzzles and have even been publishing their own magazine! There is a flower-patterned labyrinth on the Square of Croatian Defenders. It is a real enigma to find the way out of Bjelovar!

Najvažnija gradska ulica u Rijeci  je Korzo. Ako nisi bio na Korzu, nisi bio ni u Rijeci. Stoga kreni Korzom, prođi kroz Gradski toranj i prošeći do katedrale svetog Vida. U blizini možeš vidjeti i “kosi toranj”. Ne vjeruješ? Zvonik crkve Uznesenja Blažene Djevice Marije zaista se nakrivio i svi ga zovu “kosi toranj”!

Grouse

Veliki tetrijeb

The big grouse, called pivac around here, is a symbol of the Park, so even some peaks were named after it. Its proper name is big grouse or gluhan. It is a rare and timid bird, living in mountain forests.

Did you know that the big grouse actually turns deaf?
The male grouse sings to attract a female. At the end of the song, it cannot see or hear any more (gluhan comes from a word for “deaf”), so it is an easy prey for hunters. It is now protected.

Lynx

ris

The lynx is a very rare and furtive animal after which the massif was named. It is difficult to spot it, or even to come across its footprints. The lynx is the largest predator from the European family of felines. It is around 150 cm long and weighs around 25 kilos. You can recognize it by tufts of hair at the ends of spikey ears. It feeds on small animals such as squirrels, snakes and rabbits, and it hunts at night.
