According to a legend, another shipwrecked person found refuge on Mljet. On his way from Jerusalem to Rome, Saint Paul sheltered from a storm there. He was then bitten by a snake, but to no harm. The spot where he got stranded is still called Crkva or Crkvina. There is also St Paul’s rock, as well as a small votive church in the eastern part of the island.
